ABOUT THE ROLE
Pensole Lewis College (PLC) Detroit is seeking a highly skilled, versatile, organized, calendar-driven and collaborative Creative Content Producer to spearhead the visual ecosystem for our ePLC (virtual instruction) LMS platform. In this role, you will be the driving force behind the camera and across the digital suite, owning the end-to-end production pipeline for all asynchronous courseware, digital courses and other IC video content, and educational online video programming.
This role sits within the Marketing team and reports to the Marketing Director. It bridges technical execution with innovative storytelling, and requires heavy day-to-day collaboration with the Education team, partnering directly with industry-leading faculty, color and material design, footwear design, and apparel design, graphic design and other emerging disciplines and academic innovators to transform deep design expertise into world-class, self-paced and hybrid digital e-learning experiences. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Timeline & Calendar Strategy: Own and maintain the master video production calendar. Proactively manage project timelines, balance filming days with editing blocks, and map out delivery milestones to guarantee content launches on time across multiple multi-week course tracks for e-learning programming.
- Script Overview & Refinement: Review, advise, and contribute to educational filming scripts and technical course content prior to shooting. Assist in translating text-heavy educational outlines into organized, production-ready shooting scripts with clear dynamic cues, B-roll callouts, and visual pacing adjustments.
- On-Set Production & Direction: Act as the primary camera operator, setup and manage studio/field 3-point lighting configurations, and mic talent to capture broadcast-quality sound.
- Talent Direction: Confidently direct faculty, guest executives, and designers on camera, guiding pacing and presentation styles to ensure clear knowledge delivery for asynchronous learners. Setup backgrounds and locations appropriately.
- Pre-Production & Asset Prep: Collaborate with instructors and the Education team to translate text-heavy curricula into engaging visual storyboards, shooting scripts, and production timelines.
- Post-Production Editing: Edit raw multicam footage into polished, rhythmically engaging short- and long-form educational segments, following video brand guidelines provided by Marketing.
- Motion Graphics & B-Roll: Design and animate title cards, lower-thirds, transitions, and overlay graphics to emphasize core educational takeaways.
- Compliance & Archiving: Handle precise closed-captioning, audio transcription, file organization, and platform-specific media deployment.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS AND HARDSKILLS
1. Camera & On-Set Production Hardware
- Cinematography Platforms: Mastery of mirrorless and cinema camera bodies (e.g., Sony FX3/FX6) and overhead cameras.
- Studio Lighting Instrumentation: Technical proficiency with 3-point LED lighting setups, modifying light (diffusion, softboxes), and controlling color temperatures (Kelvin scales).
- Audio Engineering Hardware: Proper deployment of directional boom microphones, lavalier body packs (e.g., Rode Wireless, Sennheiser), and external multi-track field recorders (e.g., Zoom, Tascam).
2. Post-Production & Software Suites
- Non-Linear Editing (NLE) Software: Expert-level command of Adobe Premiere Pro or Apple Final Cut Pro.
- Motion Graphics & Compositing: Applied knowledge of Adobe After Effects for lower-thirds, kinetic typography, and basic title animation.
- Graphic Design & Asset Prep: Competency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to clean up vector logos or slice graphics provided by apparel design instructors.
- Color Grading: Basic workflow technicalities for color correction, balancing exposure, and working with Log footage (LUT deployment) or comparable.
3. Digital Asset Management & Workflow Tools
- Content Management Systems (CMS): Experience uploading assets, arranging playlists, and embedding media directly into asynchronous learning frameworks.
- Asset Archiving: Knowledge of proper file nomenclature, server structuring, high-resolution rendering codecs (e.g., H.264, ProRes), and cloud backups.
- Project Tracking: Proficiency using platform management apps like Asana to monitor production timelines across multi-week course builds.
4. Accessibility & Digital Delivery Standards
- Transcription & Captioning Toolsets: Mastery of generating and sync-checking subtitle files (e.g., .SRT or .VTT formats) via AI transcription tools or native NLE caption panels to meet modern accessibility compliance guidelines.
TYPICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Experience: 3–5 years of professional digital video production, e-learning content creation, or broadcast media experience. Experience with instructional design in a creative field including Edtech, educational institution and nonprofits as a plus.
- Portfolio: Mandatory video showreel demonstrating high production value, crisp audio, clear studio lighting, and smooth editing.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in film, Digital Media, Communications, Ed Tech Design or equivalent hands-on industry experience.
- Software Mastery: Expert mastery of Adobe Premiere Pro (or similar NLEs), with intermediate skills in After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator and video-editing.
- Hardware Fluency: Technical comfort with cinema/mirrorless cameras (e.g., Sony FX series), 3-point lighting setups, and multi-track field audio recorders.
- Project Management: Proven ability to build and run production calendars, manage high-volume video assets, and meet rigid launch deadlines.
- Scripting Skills: Ability to translate text-heavy educational scripts into visual storyboards with clear B-roll and graphic callouts.
- Compliance Knowledge: Experience generating and formatting web-optimized caption files (.SRT/.VTT) to meet digital accessibility standards.
- Collaboration: Strong communication and collaboration skills for close, ongoing partnership with the Marketing and Education teams.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift, carry, and transport production equipment (cameras, heavy-duty C-stands, lighting kits, and cases) weighing up to 50 lbs during on-location shoots and studio setups.
